Are there any rules for AI development?

Currently, there are no general rules for AI development. If an AI model is developed using personal data, then the GDPR must be taken into account. The core principles of the GDPR are important, such as transparency and fairness, the processing grounds and the prohibition of automated decisions.

Since every model is part of a piece of software, every model must also meet the standards that apply to the software. While there are standards for software development, there is not yet a general set of standards, for example, for model development. However, the first standards are beginning to emerge; for instance, the municipality of Amsterdam has drawn up procurement terms for algorithms. Also, the Dutch government has a whole list of standards for its own software, but nothing specific for models.
