To whom do the outcomes of an AI model belong?

To whom the outcomes of a model belong depends on the type of model. If a model creates a work of art based on a creative combination of input data, it can be well argued that this creates a copyright for the person who determined the input. Something similar happens when a digital artist uses Photoshop to create a work of art.

However, if we are talking about a model that generates text based on other texts, then it is not immediately clear who those new texts belong to. The agreements between the developer of the model and the user will be important to figure this out. If you as a user have been given a license to use the model, then you can assume that you may use the outcomes as you wish. But without this guarantee from the developer, it may well be that the developer will not even cooperate in providing you with access to the outcomes that are on your device.
